Candidates sent to governor for 2 judgeships | News
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Five candidates have been recommended to Gov. Susana Martinez for filling two vacant judgeships in New Mexico.
A judicial nominating commission on Friday suggested four lawyers from Las Cruces for one judgeship: Marci Beyer, Nelson Goodin, Darren Kugler and Francisco Mario Ortiz.
The vacancy in the 3rd Judicial District was created by the resignation of District Judge Michael Murphy, who retired in February as part of an agreement to end disciplinary investigations of him.
Murphy still faces criminal charges for allegedly telling a judicial candidate she needed to pay a political activist to be considered for appointment to the court.
Deming lawyer Jennifer DeLaney was recommended to the governor last week for a vacancy in the 6th Judicial District caused by the retirement of District Judge Gary Jeffreys.
